9 Activities to Fall in Love With This Autumn
It's that time of year again! Cool breezes, warm sunshine, and color are everywhere! It would be a shame to let it go to waste and not enjoy it with the family with such beautiful scenery. So for some fall fun, check out the ideas below!
Jumping Into Leaves
You can't beat the classics. There's nothing like working together to build an enormous pile you can and take turns pumping into, rolling in, and jumping through the pile, leaves scattering everywhere like fall confetti! If there aren't enough leaves in your yard, you can go to the local Outdoor Playground parks or ask your neighbors for their leaves.
Start Fall Scavenger Hunts
Scavenger hunts are great for kids all year-round. You could get a menagerie of fake little pumpkins, cut them open, fill them with prizes or candy, and hide them with one gold pumpkin determining a grand prize winner.
Have a Baking Day
It does not fall without tasty recipes. Now you can bake recipes together that make autumn flavors come alive! Baking ideas you can start with could be:
Pumpkin-spice bread
Apple Pie cinnamon rolls (you knew apples would be on the list)
Pumpkin Apple Streusel muffins
Soft bread pudding
Gluten-free lemon ginger cookies
Have a Picnic
Beautiful days are before you, so why not find a large blanket, fill a basket with some sandwiches, fruits, coffee, or cocoa in a thermos, and some cups and napkins, and go to the park to enjoy quality family time.
Make a Scarecrow
There's nothing like having a scarecrow greet you when you get home, and they're easy to make! Some cheap thrift-store clothes, some straw, grocery bags, and a hat, and you can be done! If you want a skeleton, you can use yardsticks.
Paint Fall Decorations
With all the natural scenery, this is a great time to get some paints and brushes for the kids and let them paint what they see. Or you can paint fall decorations for your home. Paint on fake or real pumpkins, mini plant pots, pumpkin seeds to make your pictures with, or on gourds with their weird shapes.
Press Flowers and Leaves
Some of the prettiest leaves and flowers come out at this time. So while they're still good, try pressing them and letting kids put them in their collection books! A quick how-to video can be found here.
Set Up Backyard Camping
It's the season for ghost stories and gooey snacks around a warm campfire! Setting up your camp at home allows you to set up at any time. If you don't have a tent, a fortified blanket fort might work too. It's just enough adventure for your younger kids.
Make your birdfeeders
It's an absolute joy to watch and listen to the birds. Please give them the incentive to visit your home by finding out what birds will be in your area, getting their favorite food, and putting it in your birdfeeders made out of milk jugs, water bottles, or even oranges.
